LVO Architecture

Moorooka Central

The Moorooka retail precinct on 144 and 146 Beaudesert Road enlivens the existing streetscape and has succeeded in providing an active contribution to the new commercial expansion of the Moorvale shopping district. For this project, the client envisaged an engaging retail hub that would set a precedent for future developments and dynamically enhance the contextual surroundings whilst maximising commercial floor space for tenants.

In addition to fulfilling this brief, LVO’s contemporary design for a single-storey commercial space also incorporated a sublevel basement car park – to relieve parking stress for workers and clientele on the busy site – and an open terrace for public use. The development drew keen interest from local businesses, currently housing the Moorooka Commonwealth Bank branch, Aussie Home Loans, Harry’s Optometrist, Ray White Moorooka and a soon to be opened café.

The striking roofline creates an image of distinction and cohesion for the tenancies along the street front, whilst also stretching a lower awning over the footpath to connect to the human scale and invite patrons in from the street. By broadening the roof coverage and incline over the site, LVO’s astute design provides an engaging sense of open space and creates a vibrant urban setting that will positively influence the future development of local retail architecture.
