Moranbah Accommodation Units

The Moranbah Accommodation Units project at Bacon Street in the central Queensland mining town of Moranbah, is a unique and interesting development in that the use of pre-fabricated and prefinished building elements provides the basis for the motel accommodation units. The overall project comprises: a single level Reception, Office and Restaurant Building; 25 single or double storey accommodation blocks, providing a total of 148 motel style suites; and various single level service and resident facilities buildings.

Each block is made from two standard shipping containers which are placed together. Each half of the completed block comes shipped from the factory fully fitted- out with floor finishes, trims, doors, windows, painted walls and ceiling, floor and wall tiling to the ensuites, joinery, sanitary fittings and fixtures, air-conditioning, lights, power and data points.

The containers arrive at site and are laid on pre-installed concrete piers, fixed down within very specific dimensional requirements. This process reduces construction time and on-site installation issues, which is particularly important in locations where skilled trades are in short supply, high demand, and expensive.

To complete the unit installation, modern look skillion roof and external wall panelling and a carport each of these items come ‘€˜flat-pack’ from the factory shipped with the containers and installed on site to complete the project.
